Come on down and visit French Indochina now!

Want to Experience Life in the Peaceful, Tranquil Countryside?

For those who are interested in experiencing life in the countryside, we recommend that you visit a typical Cambodian village, also known as a "Kompong". Let us provide you with a brief description of the "Kompong". In a "Kompong" you can see the people emerging from their quaint cottages/huts to go about their daily activities every morning like hunting, planting rice and herding water buffaloes. All day long, it is just work, work, and more work for these people. The main occupation in the area is farming and huge quantities of land are cleared for the main crop grown in the area, rice.

Although "Kompongs" are generally considered traditional and technologically-backward areas, evidence of technological improvement can be seen. With the new export-oriented economy, new irrigation systems and plantation growing systems were introduced to induce higher crop yield due to increase in demand for rice. More and more land was also cleared to grow this precious commodity. This creates a visually-pleasant scenery, where rice paddies stretch out over acres and acres, punctuated by well planned irrigation ditches over regular intervals.

Also, the transportation system was improved as there is now a need to transport goods and supplies to aid in exporting of goods. With the introduction of roads and railways, the communications sector was made more efficient as well. So don't be alarmed at the increasing number of modern buildings like hospitals and schools in the countryside as well. In conclusion, the general quality of life in the countryside was improved with the our arrival and with this, we strongly encourage you to experience what it feels like to stay in the modernized countryside.

Want to Know More about the Culture of the Local Populace?

In French Indochina, there are many people of different races and cultures staying together in close proximity with each other like the Cambodians, the Chinese and the Annamese. It can be seen that they are living together in peace and harmony. After our arrival, we made them see that there are obvious differences between each other and made them more protective of their identity. As a result of this, their culture is very well-preserved and this means that you get a chance to immerse yourself in their cultural diversity. With a wide variety of customs and traditions, don't forget to bring your camera along (if you have one) as this is simply a visual treat that cannot be missed.

Anyone Interested to Visit the Royal Palaces?

The monarchy system in French Indochina has not been changed at all. In this region, the French, that's us, maintain the policy of assimilation. The local kings still held their positions, but absolute power is still held by us. This makes it easy for us to arrange tours to the kings' residences to show you to how the king and the royal family lived during this period of modernization. Also, as we hold absolute power, the official language of the region was changed to French, our mother tongue. This would enable you to be able to fit in nicely to the region in a short period of time.
